Library Trustees Delivering on Their Promises ... Again

cleanbooks4kids

On February 20, 2025, the Community Library Network (CLN) trustees voted to finalize the revised minor card policy. To comply with Idaho code (18-1517B), minors may not access a limited Mature Content Collection. This Mature Content Collection will include sexually explicit materials determined to be harmful to minors (as defined in Idaho code 18-1514). This collection will be accessible to any adult for themselves, or parents may check these items out for their children. CLN minors will no longer be able to order books from libraries that provide sexually explicit materials to minors. Minors will now only be able to order from within the CLN since no other library has been as proactive as the CLN in following the law and protecting minors, minors’ rights, and parents’ rights. Additionally, Washington's libraries that are part of the library consortium (CIN) are not subject to Idaho's laws and have mostly expressed the desire to keep sexually explicit books on display in the minors’ sections of their libraries.

While the policy has been passed, procedures and software capabilities to support the policy and its implementation are being analyzed. This new policy does not affect materials accessible to adult patrons. [The March 16, 2023 date below refers to the last time this minor card policy was revised.]
